I use the word finally because this trip is long over-due AND because our original 16hr trip turned into a 50hr journey. What was suppose to be a quick hop over the border to the US, a flight across the continent and a jump over the Atlantic, followed by a quick flight from Germany down to Split was delayed by a strike in Zagreb that prevented our plane from actually arriving at our airport to take us to Split. Nothing a few food vouchers, a night in a hotel and countless hours of browsing through duty free shops and sitting in a multitude of positions on those ever-so-comfy airport chairs couldn't solve! Airlines really do take care of their customers don't they?!
But we are HERE, the sun is shining and the sea is still warm (planning on testing just HOW warm in the next day or two!).
I LOVE everything about this town - the stone houses&streets, the loud laughter and commentary from the locals, the delicious pasteries on every corner, the view of the water from almost anywhere, the stunning mountain backdrop, cafes every few feet (or meters for you fellow Europeans!), the crazy driving, the kids playing outside until the sun goes down....the list goes on forever!! Most of all I love the people, the relaxed vibe and the pace of life, just a few notches slower than what we're use to east of the pond.
Here's a few shots from my eeeeearly morning walk in our neighbourhood (still adjusting to the time change).
The sun, the sea and the fresh salt air......heals the soul.
